Modern Courtyard Garden – Blackwell

Our clients have a small, private courtyard area to the side of their house, which they wanted to improve; it wasn’t used, due to its dull and uninspiring appearance. Their office, with large floor to ceiling windows, projects out into this space so it was also equally important that the courtyard looked good from there.

The transformation started with a bespoke water-wall feature, in slate with a wood surround. This can be seen, and heard from the office, and the sound of moving water provides a calming effect on the work environment.

The paving is a cool grey ‘plank’ paver set slightly on the offset, giving the illusion of a deeper and wider space, also contrasting well with the bright purple/pink planters, which were requested by the customer. These give a really bright and contemporary feel to the space. The planting is in soft pinks, purples and whites, adding colour and softness. Herbs are also featured in the garden, lending a Mediterranean feel and providing the clients, who are keen cooks, with an ample supply.

The clients adore the space and this lovely ‘sun-trap’ is getting lots of use. Project completed in collaboration with Avalon Landscapes & Design Ltd.
